Atsuage is one of my favorite Japanese tofu dishes. I wanted to find a way to make it
even easier and healthier without losing that delicious flavor! This Air Fryer version
is completely oil-free and incredibly simple—all you need is a block of tofu and your
air fryer.
It’s the perfect protein-packed snack, a crunchy salad topper, or a simple side dish
served with fresh ginger and soy sauce. I've been using this to top my salads lately
and it's a total game-changer!
Ingredients
1 block Extra-Firm or Firm Tofu
For Serving: Soy sauce, grated fresh ginger, and chopped green
onions
Instructions
Drain the tofu and pat it dry with a paper towel. Let it
sit for 5–10 minutes to remove any remaining excess moisture.
Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces (roughly 1 inch by 1 inch cubes).
Tip: For salad toppings, slice them even smaller into tiny cubes!
Pat the pieces one last time with a paper towel.
Lightly oil the air fryer basket to prevent the tofu from sticking.
Place the pieces in the basket, leaving space in between each one.
Air Fry: Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 8 minutes.
Flip the pieces and cook for another 5–7 minutes (only 3 minutes for tiny cubes) or until they are crispy to your liking.
Cooking Notes
You can use any size you like, but larger pieces may need more cooking time.
No oil needed to coat the tofu.
[Serving Suggestions] Atsuage is incredibly versatile!
Serve hot with soy sauce, ginger, and green onions.
Add to your favorite salad for a crispy crunch.
Toss into noodles or stir-fries.
