Yakisoba with Bachan's Japanese BBQ Sauce
I call my grandma "Obachan" and my son calls my mom "Baaba" (ばあば), so "Bachan" wasn't part of my daily vocabulary until this sauce came out! This sauce has been super popular in the US for a while now, and it works wonderfully on so many dishes. I mostly use it for Yakiniku dinners or quick stir-fries, but it also makes a fantastic Yakisoba! If you have a bottle of Bachan's Japanese BBQ Sauce sitting in your fridge, you have to give this recipe a try!
Ingredients
The Sauce Mix
4 tbsp Bachan’s Japanese BBQ Sauce
2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
1 tsp Soy Sauce
1/4 tsp Sugar
Main Ingredients
3 packs Yakisoba noodles
150g Pork, chicken, or your favorite protein (sliced into bite-sized pieces or strips)
200g Cabbage (cut into bite-sized chunks and separated)
1 small (120g) Zucchini (halved lengthwise and sliced into half-moons)
100g Carrots (cut into matchsticks / julienned)
To taste: Neutral oil, sesame oil, 2 pinches of salt, and black pepper
Instructions
1. Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine Bachan’s Japanese BBQ Sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. Mix well until the sugar dissolves completely.
2. Prep Vegetables & Noodles
Clean all vegetables thoroughly and pat them dry.
Cut the cabbage, zucchini, and carrots into shape of your preferences.
Place 3 packs of yakisoba noodles in a bowl, cover with boiling water, and wait for 1 minute until they separate easily. Drain completely.
3. Cook Meat & Veggies
Preheat your skillet (or electric skillet) to medium heat and spread neutral oil.
Place the pork in the pan. Cook for 1 minute, flip, and cook the other side for another minute.
Add the carrots, toss quickly, then add the zucchini. Toss to coat in oil, and cook for 1–2 minutes until tender.
Season with 2 pinches of salt and black pepper.
Add the cabbage and cook for 1 more minute until tender.
Transfer everything to a plate.
4. Crisp the Noodles
Add sesame oil to the same skillet and spread the noodles evenly. Cook for about 2 minutes per side until light golden brown and slightly crisp.
5. Combine & Serve
Once you hear the noodles sizzle and crisp up (pachi-pachi!), pour the sauce mixture over the noodles and toss to coat evenly. Return the cooked vegetables and meat to the skillet, toss everything well to combine, and serve hot!
